Word of the Month- Reset
A new year doesn’t magically wipe the slate clean, but it does offer an opening. We take that opening and talk about what a real “reset” looks like when life is messy, when grief is present, and when faith asks us to slow down instead of speed up. Rather than chasing resolutions, we lean into realignment—choosing presence, compassion, and intention as the path forward.

Welcome back to CC Airwaves and Happy New Year. My name is Paige Matillo, and today we have another edition of Word of the Month. Each month, we take the time to reflect on a single word, one that offers us a new lens to view our faith, our healing, and the season we're living in. And what better word to start the year off than with reset? January is often viewed as a clean slate. After the rush of the holidays, the turning of the calendar invites us into something new. It's a natural moment to reset our routines, our habits, our focus. But it's more than just making resolutions. A true reset is about realignment. It's about taking a breath, taking a step back, and asking ourselves, where am I right now and where is God calling me to go next? For some, the word reset brings excitement, a fresh beginning. But for others, it can feel overwhelming, especially if last year held grief, uncertainty, or pain. And if you're entering 2026 carrying the weight of loss, the idea of starting over might feel hollow or even impossible. And that's okay. Resetting doesn't mean forgetting. It doesn't mean erasing what happened or pretending to be okay when you're not. Sometimes resetting simply means giving yourself grace, allowing yourself to rest, to reflect, to invite God into the quiet corners of your heart. In scripture, we're reminded of the power of new beginnings. Isaiah 43, 19 says, See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up. Do you not perceive it? God is always doing something new in us, but often that newness is begins in stillness, in the quiet decision to be present, to listen, and to be in again, one small step at a time. So how can we embrace a reset this month? Maybe it's revisiting your prayer life or setting aside intentional quiet time each day. Maybe it's decluttering your space or your schedule to make room for what truly matters. I know that one of my big goals is to declutter my space, so that's exactly what I'll be doing. Maybe it's reaching out for support or starting to attend a grief support group. But maybe it's also as simple as going on more walks, drinking more water, or writing in a journal. Whatever your reset looks like, let it be rooted in compassion. You shouldn't have to chase perfection. Instead, it's all about intention. You have to choose presence and you have to choose hope. For those who are grieving, this reset might be about figuring out how to live with the absence of someone you love. That's a sacred kind of reset. A slow, gentle process of rebuilding. And it takes courage. But even here, even now, God is with you, guiding you, holding you, and reminding you that you are not alone. So as we begin this new year together, I invite you to reflect what's something I need to let go of. What's something I want to embrace? And where might God be inviting me to start again? Let this month be where we breathe deep, unclench our fists and open our hearts to new beginnings, no matter how small, because even the smallest reset can lead to something beautiful.
