mentally embeddedrounded, transformative. So with the amount of hope and transparency could be resolved. Initially, I suggest your community. Hello everyone and welcome back to CC Airwaves. My name is Paige Matillo and today I am bringing back an old segment called Famous Figures.

Speaker 1:

This is where we talk about famous interments in our cemeteries and we are going to focus on Etori Boyardy, who you better know as Chef Boyardy. That's right, you know him, we love him, we grew up with them. Chef Boyardy's canned pastas are an American staple, the saving grace of busy parents, the provider of last minute meals and the microwave safe option for broke college students. It's hard to find someone who hasn't enjoyed a Chef Boyardy meal at some point or at the very least heard of the brand. For us Clevelanders, we can take special pride in knowing that the creator of the Boyardy products, hector Boyardy, actually started his business right here in Cleveland. But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, so let's start at the beginning.

Speaker 1:

Etori Boyardy was born in 1897 in Piacenza, italy. He grew up in a family deeply rooted in the culinary arts and his passion for cooking was ignited at a young age. As a teenager, boyardy worked in his family's restaurant, where he honed his skills and developed a profound understanding of Italian cuisine. In 1914, boyardy embarked on a journey to the United States, where he initially worked as a chef in the kitchen of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. His exceptional talent and dedication to his craft soon caught the attention of prominent figures in the culinary world. Boyardy's reputation grew and he found himself working in prestigious hotels and restaurants across the country.

Speaker 1:

In 1928, boyardy opened his own restaurant, il Giardino di Italia, in Cleveland, ohio. The establishment quickly became a culinary sensation, drawing patrons from far and wide who sought to savor Boyardy's authentic Italian dishes. His restaurant gained popularity not only for its delicious food but also for its warm and inviting atmosphere. Boyardy's entrepreneurial spirit and desire to share his culinary creations with a broader audience led him to launch a line of packaged Italian food products in the 1930s. These products, including his iconic canned pasta meals, became an instant hit. Chef Boyardy's ready-to-eat meals offered convenience without sacrificing taste, revolutionizing the way Americans approached Italian cuisine.

Speaker 1:

Throughout his career, a Tory Boyardy's dedication to the quality ingredients, authentic flavors and culinary innovation set him apart as a true master chef. His legacy as Chef Boyardy lives on, with his name being synonymous with delicious Italian inspired meals. Millions worldwide in joy. Boyardy passed away due to natural causes in 1985 in Parma, ohio. He is buried at also cemetery in Shardin. Thank you so much for joining me today as I gave you a little look into the life of a Tory Boyardy.
